Tom Hays Memorial

Tom Hays, Jr., an extraordinary young man and former board member of the Wynnewood Civic Association, passed away suddenly in December, 2006 at the age of twenty-five. Tommy’s service to Wynnewood was generous in its time, talents, and energy. As a young boy, Tom’s commitment to the WCA and public service began during weekend forays with his family to the Wynnewood train station to clean and repair station buildings, paint over graffiti, and weed and plant the surrounding gardens. Years later, as the youngest ever WCA board member, Tom served on the Train Station Committee and assumed the chair position of the Public Safety Committee. His growing commitment to public service was furthered when he joined the ranks of local volunteer fire companies, serving with great pride, honor, and distinction.

Tommy’s life epitomized the spirit of public service and the Wynnewood Civic Association wishes to honor Tom and his family by making sure the Wynnewood Train Station always remains a welcoming place for travelers and passers-by. To carry on this work, the WCA has set up the Tom Hays Jr. Memorial Fund for Train Station Maintenance and Beautification. Consider making a contribution to the fund in memory of this special young man.  Directions for making contributions can be found on the ‘Join Us’ page of the website.

The WCA wishes to express our gratitude to SEPTA for their generous donation of the bench that has been placed in the Tom Hays Memorial Garden.
