Wynnewood Civic Association Land Use and Zoning Committee
Contact Us: zoning@wynnewoodcivic.com
The Land Use and Zoning Committee works on the issues that impact the quality of life throughout Wynnewood. We strive to represent the interests of the Wynnewood neighborhoods through our participation at Township and civic meetings, planning and development sessions, and in discussions with neighbors, developers, and institutions. We examine issues and seek to craft resolutions to a myriad of community challenges poised to impact the Wynnewood community.
Presently the WCA finds itself actively engaged on several fronts including:
- the redevelopment of businesses on Lancaster Avenue
- high school construction
- development of commercial and residential projects throughout the community
- the Merriam Estate negotiations involving Narberth, Lower Merion Township, the owner, and proposed developers
While our focus is on addressing the issues facing Wynnewood, our community involvement is not limited to Wynnewood alone as we recognize the unique inter-connectedness of all the Lower Merion communities. An important challenge confronting Wynnewood and all communities and businesses in and around Ardmore is the Ardmore Transit Center and Redevelopment Plan. Proposals for additional development at the Suburban Square shopping center also stand poised to impact our community. Involvement of the WCA in the discussions around these issues will be vitally important.
To stay informed of the latest developments of proposed projects throughout the Township, please go to the Township website at www.lowermerion.org. This site will allow you to read proposals, view plans, ask questions, and offer comments to the Township Commissioners and staff. It is important for neighbors and neighborhoods to be informed of and involved in community decisions that affect the future of Lower Merion Township. With issues of all types occupying the agenda for the coming year, we look forward to your input and active support in continuing the tradition of representing our neighbors.
News:
In April of this year, the Wynnewood Civic Association presented, after twenty months of discussions with and at Toll Brothers request, a formal letter of WCA/community discussion points and concerns and a formal letter of negotiation. Toll Brothers response to this letter was a rather firm stance of non-negotiation. Over the summer months, representatives from the Township have been speaking with representatives from Toll Brothers regarding the proposals for development of the Merriam Estate. Township representatives, along with Liz Rogan, whose ward is the Merriam Estate, and Cheryl Gelber have developed a list of Township settlement discussion points that is being presented to the Board of Commissioners for discussion. Most of these points (with the notable exception of the residential traffic flow from the Thomas Wynne apartments through the gated Reserve at Maybrook to an exit onto Penn Road) are the same as those expressed by the WCA.
